Re: B 17 with Jet engine in Nose

The props look like Curtiss Electric.
There was a modified 5-Engine B-17 which used Curtiss Electric props - I think it was the one
used by Wright for its turbo prop testing. I bet this is that airframe.

Pretty nice, Scott.
Took me a little while to see the changes.
Had to clear my cache.

Re: 12 O'clock High (1949)

Scott, I had heard a story about that steel post coming through the fuselage and "just missing" Mantz. I see no evidence in the film of anything coming through the nose of the plane, and the plane clearly lands between the tents, and so I wonder if this is, like the steel bar welded across the thro...

Re: 44-8543 in new colors

It's funny. We get posts of the vein "Why don't you post more pictures/video/do more updates so I can sis here on my comfy-schmupy couch, and ask you why you are using AN455 rivets?" all the time. I wish each question like that had a $100 donation. We might have a zero-timed R-1820-97 by now. I don...

Re: 44-8543 in new colors

I'm not going to disagree about the significance of it being a PFF ship, and I know Doc was trying to get the correct radar equipment at one time, but... It is out there to make the new owner/leaser $$$ "Desert Rat" has the same problem. Many have expressed the view that it should have stayed an XC...

Re: B-17C / Fortress GR I AN530

Huh.

I knew of a fortress crash in Scotland.
There were some pictures on the web at
one time. I think it was an 'E' though. All that
was left was a rusting engine mount, and
some small debris.

Buried on base, or at the crash site?
Come on, man! Think! :-)

Re: Restoration of B-17E 41-2595 "Desert Rat"

CV, If I recall correctly, Boeing spelled out a maker and color number. Unfortunately, it doesn't translate to anything tangible 75+ years later. As for the .30 cal boxes - sure, anything you need. I'm looking for .30 cal ammo boxes myself. I may have a GFE part number. This picture is as good as i...
