I know that current military regs have fairly strict paint color regulations, did they back then?

I'm trying to colorize a picture of my grandfather's bomber and want to make sure I have the correct colors for certain areas.

Those B-17Es have always been of particular interest to me, but the plot just seems to be getting thicker. A fellow researcher, the late George Wyatt, came up with this: "in phone conversation with Bill Wilver over the holidays he told me that 12475 was named "Jungle Jim", He crewed the a/c w/Keena...

My grandfather was the first pilot assigned to command 41-2499, later named Jungle Jim. I've seen some pictures, but the internet has swallowed some of them and I can no longer find them.
