Here is a photo I shot today of the turret/radome opening in '543. http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w117/2AF/IMG_3980.jpg The original plug that reduced the diameter to fit the radome still has the rubber seal on it. The cover was simply screwed onto the plug when the H2X equipment was removed. I'...

Speaking of seeing Chuckie, would anyone here like me to start an update thread on our current maintenance cycle? We're diligently working on an extended annual inspection and we could post progress on the Forum something like Spanner has done with TR.

Thanks for confirming what I'd been thinking. Up until a couple of weeks ago I hadn't considered that there would be a difference from manufacturer-to-manufacturer. I was looking at a photo taken from the cockpit of a Vega airplane and that was when the little lightbulb came on that the anti-glare ...

Vega Anti-Glare Panels

We're planning on painting the anti-glare panels on all four nacelles of Chuckie this winter. The paint had been removed at some point in the distant past. I'd originally thought this would be an easy project, but I find that there are different patterns to the masking in photos I have. Hopefully so...

Well, this is a little older thread, but I have some new information that fills in some of the blanks about Chuckie , 44-8543. Our crew chief, Bill (CrewDawg) Gorin got a copy of both accident reports involving 543. The incident in February of '45 has a few photos in the report, and the radome is cl...

We've lived in the Tulsa area for eleven years off-and-on, and I've heard many variations on the story of surviving B-17s near OKC. The stories are usually that there were a pair of airframes on a property that was needed for one of the major highways and that they may have been moved. There are wel...

Hi guys, funny meeting y'all here! Steve, Didn't I send this one to you? If not, I apologize. Here's the nose (fresh from the Base Photo Department rather than the newspaper) and a poor quality blown up shot of the data block. http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w117/2AF/AmarilloAvenger.jpg ht...

Hopefully these photos will help fill in one of the blanks in this research. I'm quite certain that the airplane in the background is 38-268. http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w117/2AF/AmarilloCletractowing.jpg A closer view: http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w117/2AF/AmarilloCletractowing-1.jpg H...

John,

I don't have anything to offer on the controller, but I wanted to say "Hi" and thanks for the leads on the ball turret stanchion a month or so ago.

Well, I finally signed up a little while ago.

Scott, when I emailed those photos from Amarillo to you I thought I sent along the serial number of #79, Moonbeam McSwine. I'm pretty certain that it is 38-268. Sorry about not sending along the info.

More later,
Scott
