Re: Postwar Aircraft Disposal
I always got a kick out of the line, some of the aircraft coming into Kingman were direct from combat -- what a load to horse hocky.... The Kingman ships all came from South Park AAF where they were originally stored after arriving back from combat. In Jan 45 ships from other storage fields started ...

Re: The Swoose
I just read that the AF Museum has decided to restore the Swoose in its final, transport configuration. What a disappointment. this aircraft is getting shrift compared the the more glamorous "Belle" but is just as if not more historically than the B-17F. What a cop out. Knowing the Air Farce Museum...

Re: Martin 250CE in a B-17?
Points taken. I’ve since learned that Flip Marchese and Ross Smith have been investigating these same photos, and concluded that #60 is this one, B-17F-130-BO 42-30949, in earlier days named Jumpin’ Jive . I am not seeing a connection with Buckingham according to Osborne 42-30949 Del Cheyenne 24/8/...

Re: The First Civil B-17 (Fall 1945): NX60475
??????
According to Boeing, technically no such aircraft as the B-17, all the the Flying Fortress came under the designation of Boeing 299-0 (Even the Lockheed and Douglas ships).

Re: The First Civil B-17 (Fall 1945): NX60475
Couple of note: Tinker often farmed out war surplus aircraft to various manufactures with the expectation that they might or might not get the aircraft back in one piece. Tinker was considered the issueing agency but not financially or materially responsible for the property. You have on the history...

Re: Martin 250CE in a B-17?
Is that a Buckingham plane? I've been looking for Buckingham B-17s as the Paducah plane started its career there. Other aircraft types based there had "FM###" fuselage codes, but the only two Forts from that field I've found have two-digit numbers like Sebring or Lockbourne (from a YouTube video ab...

Re: Martin 250CE in a B-17?
With the help of Jack Fellows I think I've been able to take this a bit further. The WASP pilot is Dawn Seymour and this appears likely to be the B-17 she was photographed in. http://img-cdn.filefactory.com/embed/xl/1utktubsg5fs.jpg Disagree The second photo is a standard B-17 upper, where the phot...

Re: Yankee Lady grounded out of caution; New AD coming?
So, why build new spar caps if the problem is the fuselage attach points? Could be a hole raft of problems; age limited parts, dissimular metal corrosion, elongation of the fittings, the FAA being the FAA. Have to read the AD to see what they are addressing, but being a 65-year old aircraft could j...

Re: Yankee Lady grounded out of caution; New AD coming?
So back to square one There is a shortage of inners There is a problem with the attachment points The next obvious solution is new build spars (which would need new technology to rediscover the lost process). Now the question is what hoops would the FAA need to certify new spars (and it can be done;...
