Re: B-17F Nose Glass

The nose piece looks great. It turned out really well. The “Shoo Shoo Shoo Baby” could use one of those. Bill, one of these days I will get the time to call you. Hopefully this weekend. I have a couple of B-17G paint questions you might be able to answer. If you notice the picture of shoo shoo baby...

Re: B-17F Nose Glass

Early g models had the long nose glass and there are pictures of late g models in the war with replacement f model nose pieces.you just limit the upper travel of the guns to prevent stricking the glass.

Looks like she landed on the beach and the guns have been removed in prep to be flown off.Notice she seems to be mired in the sand as well.Good save.

Re: B-17F Nose Glass

Minor correction. We started with 3/8s and it thinned too much up the front.I picked up a rough late G glass and its thickness up the front is a little over .150.So tomorrow we are pulling a piece of 1/2 inch and we will see what we come up with. The fun begins when I start to trim this rascal to fit ...

Re: Yet another mystery B-17E: "Ready....."

There is also the name Francess under the pilots sliding window. Also of note is the reinforcement plate aft of the nose framing and it looks to be 3/16 to 1/4 inch thick.I wonder if it was for testing different nose guns(Cannon)possibly? The ball socket is not for a cannon for sure.

Re: Yet another mystery B-17E: "Ready....."

Those cheek gun mounts are correct for an E model especially in a combat zone. You cant see squat pass a 50 in the small window like what is on movie Memphis belle.
