Re: 44-8051 at Alexandria + another mystery
Someone wanted that one bad. As much as I did, it wasn't worth going overboard for

For what it's worth, I got that last one off eBay and have the second image of the left side too with that crew. I have the high bid on the first one. Hope you guys aren't after it too. I have a thing for Alex crews

Dan, have you scanned this one yet? Yep. Sadly it was fuzzy enough that there wasn't any real detail that could be picked up with a good scan. Sometimes if it's a really crisp photo, scanning at a high DPI gets some of the detail to come out. No luck this time :( http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/...

Re: Another PTO Fort. You are up Steve!
Figured I'd kick this one back up to the top as another image of 371 turned up on eBay and I was lucky enough to grab it. No nose art again so maybe taken at the same time? http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s199/guppy35/Flying%20Forts/B17F371_zpsce8i5vkq.jpg Close up of the nose http://i152.photobu...

Guess I'll keep an eye on that one. Not sure I want to spend that much though. More fun finding the ones that aren't ID'd and are a lot less expensive!

Re: Movie "Air Force" Identity of "Mary Ann"
Just for fun. Came across this photo of Gig Young all decked out as our favorite B17B co-pilot. What the stylish airman of the 190th Bomb Group were wearing in 41-42 http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s199/guppy35/Flying%20Forts/GigYoung_zpssqm0d98e.jpg Maybe the B-17C project needs a patch. Re: Another Dumbo
I wish we had stickys. I thought about doing a whole section on SAR B-17s. I might do a facebook page. I seem to have a lot of images that I've gathered of Dumbos. You are more than welcome to them on a Facebook page or wherever. Not much good unless they are shared :) Maybe Scott would sticky us a...

Another Dumbo
Not sure what it is about pictures of Dumbo's but they show up a lot :) Back of the images say they were taken at Bahrein http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s199/guppy35/Flying%20Forts/Dumbo3_zpsclvkprkj.jpg Close up of the nose. Can't quite make out the writing on the lifeboat. http://i152.photobuc...

Ugh. Just overspent my book money for the month! Definitely putting these on my list to get though. They look great!

Re: Laredo trainer 42-31309 code #318
No worries Dan - I wasn't bidding; who would have thought these un-glamorous stateside trainer photos would start taking off in value? I was surprised on that one. I've been luckier as the stateside birds tend to be labeled poorly or not identified. I enjoy the discussion here, so it's worth it to ...

Re: And one for the experts. "Mary Winn"
Interesting to note the difference in markings. No sign of the AIR FORCE or what looks like a light behind the cockpit, in the lower photo. So was the photo I posted taken before or after? And it does look like the window was added after the number was painted. Strange

Re: False story of B-17 loss at Midway
Thought I'd kick this one back to the top. Steve I heard from Tuell's school in New Mexico finally earlier today. The attached are the bits they sent me. He was sent to Hamilton in February 42 so that would seem to have him away from anything Midway related. http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s199/g...
