Mark, It does appear from these photos at the Warbird Information Exchange http://warbirdinformationexchange.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=10472&sid=24089f5045d4784d8ba4d611fd740d8e that the B-25 is indeed at Chino (unless it has since been taken to the Aero Trader desert facility). It is unfortunate t...

Bill, Welcome aboard and thank you for the PBJ-ID picture. In addition to the radar and rocket racks, it has the modified tail gunners position. The rear plexiglas is missing and I'd be willing to bet it had the field modified single fifty caliber installed. Here's another PBJ picture, this time an ...

A crying shame. The Pacific Air Museum should be ashamed that they allowed this to happen while the aircraft was displayed on loan to Hickam AFB. Looking forward to the pictures when you make them available.

Great to see this former museum piece still flying as "Panchito." Here's a link -

Goddag, T.J. I've tried to match the aircraft with pictures in Scott's book to no avail. There are other aerial tankers pictured with the same or similar modifications. I'm surprised at the total lack of identifying registration and/or tanker numbers on this one. It appears to have the Hayes modific...

A Few Old Survivor Pics

First up is 44-86893 now owned by Redbull. Let's see. I'm skinny, have hair, and there is no baby stroller in sight. I'd guess 1985 at the McConnell AFB open house where I flew KC-135R's from '84 to '90. http://pages.sbcglobal.net/sonofthor/_images/44-86893.jpg Next is 43-35972 . It appears to be in...

August, I believe you have it! I saw it from the right side only (no nose art) and it all happened so quickly the only thing that stuck in my mind was the OD paint and the stripes. I had no idea Executive Sweet had been repainted in this scheme. I'll always remember her as bare aluminum. I think it ...

Yep. Definitely not "Tondelayo." Dad and I rode in her at Tucson last April 18th. No top turret as that's where we sat for takeoff and landing. Any other thoughts anyone?

B-25 Sighting at RNO. Which One?

I was flying a turnaround out of DFW to RNO yesterday. While doing the walkaround on my 757 at RNO, I heard the unmistakable sound of radials accelerating. I looked up to see a B-25 during takeoff roll on 16R. It was of course, a J model, bombardier nose, top turret, OD camo with diagonal white stri...

Greetings, August,

This B-25 is pictured on page 61 of Scott's, B-25 Mitchell in Civil Service. It is N9456Z, serial number 44-29939. A former Paul Mantz owned ship and a veteran of the film, Catch-22, she currently operates with the Mid Atlatic Air Museum as "Briefing Time."

Cheers,

Craig

Okay, Scott, I'm awake and I'll play. Here's a few from the past. First up, this unidentified (to me) B-25 at Duxford. I visited during one of my TDY's about 1987. Anyone know the identity? http://pages.sbcglobal.net/sonofthor/_images/duwford.jpg A familiar bird at Chino - late '80's I believe. htt...

Chris, Wow, that's incredible. IAMMMMW is one of my favorite movies and I'd thought I'd seen every little nuance of every scene but the Mantz B-25 (Be it N1203 or 1042B) is real find. When time allows. I intend to take Scott up on his offer and help provide some stills for a B-25 movie page. Your ph...

Pictures of Mantz's N1203 from the movie, THEM!

In the hopes of inspiring Scott to begin a B-25 Movie page on this site like the one for B-17’s, I offer up the following images of Paul Mantz’s N1203 (43-4643) from the 1954 Sci-Fi film, Them! The film starred James Whitmore, James Arness, and Edmund Gwenn. The premise involves giant ants mutated a...

Hi Judy, The first number of the serial represents the last digit of the fiscal year in which the B-17 was purchased. In this case, 1942. That would make the full serial number 42-5234. Doing a simple Google search with that number resulted in the following website: http://winjack3.com/wwII-42-5234....
