Fire at Yankee Air Museum

Post by Guest »

At 6:15pm on 10-9-04 a fire was reported at the Yankee Air Museum, home of the B-17 Yankee Lady. I live about 5 miles from the museum and at 7:30 the fire was still very visible. The Detroit Free Press is reporting that several vintage aircraft were destroyed. As of this time, I do not know the fate of the Yankee Lady and the fire is still burning. :(

News just in, the Yankee Lady was saved from the fire as was the Yankee Warrior a B-24. Some planes have been destroyed but they have not listed them. The Yankee Lady was the crown jewel of the museum so at least that was saved.

Planes lost

Post by DryMartini »

From what we heard, the F-105 on loan from the USAF, the
OV-10 prototype, the Waco CG-4A, and a Stinson were among
the lost.
