B-17 complete blueprints

Does anyone know where I can find a complete set of blueprints for the F or G 17? microfilm or otherwise?

Try the Smithsonian Institution.
Visit their web page, and click over to
the archives. There is a request you
fill out, and they'll send you a letter
in about 2 weeks with what they have available.
microfilm is $35 a roll, and the B-17F/G set
has some 30+ rolls.

I also believe for around $50-$75 you can get an itemized list of the rolls. So, if you're looking for something specific or do not need all 34 rolls, that would definitely be a cheaper route.

Thanks guys, the request has been sent. I am going to get all the roles. The project that I am working on will require me to have all of the components of B-17 F/G.

As part of a team involved in making a some B-17 parts,
including extrusions and bulkheads, it may be in your interest to see
what we have for sale, trade, or whatever. We've been
making parts for 4 airframes (so far - A B-17G, B-17F, B-17E
and a B-17C)

Yes Bill, I am aware of Mr. kellner's project bird. I tried, five years ago, to volunteer to build him any part he wanted at cost and a new website to boot but was met with mostly uninterest.

I cannot speak for Mike, nor would I try, but over the
past 5 years I've been helping out, I've seen just how
frustrating things can get in a project like this.

I hope you realize there is quite a number of "volunteers"
coming out and telling Mike that they will help him.
We spend time showing them how to drill rivets,
use the machines, etc, and after one or two
Saturdays, they never show up again. I have given
out 10s of drawings to guys who say they can make parts,
and we never hear from them again. There was a
guy who came out, gave us his number, and told us
about how he could get our parts heat treated for
a song. We spent WEEKS trying the number, leaving
messages, tracking him down, and never got a call back.
It was like he disappeared of the face of the earth.

I cannot imagine Mike turing down anyone offering to
make parts, but maybe you caught him on a bad day,
or perhaps he misplaced your number - it does happen.
I will tell you he is one of the nicest and honest guys in
the warbird biz, but if you are irked at him over the
"uninterest", then I doubt anything I say will change that.

My apologizes. I didn't realize there were two "Bills". Old Bill and Dry Martini Bill.

To Old Bill. Until I have the drawings I need and have had an opportunity to discuss them with my staff, I will be keeping that to myself.

Dry Martini Bill. Where I live, I cannot come to Gault to assist. That was the reason that I volunteered to build him a website for free. Also, as I have been a design engineer for over 20 years and own a production Lockheed Martin/Boeing certified-supplier machine shop, I felt that I was somewhat qualified to machine any parts that he was in need of. If I can produce F-35 pre-production parts for them surely I could whittle out some B-17 parts. Anyway as such, this is as much as I would like to reply on a public forum for the world to see.

I am not "irked" and I sincerely hope for the best for Mike and his team in his goal to bring the E back to flying status.

It appears that this is going to take much longer than I had planned. I just received word back from the Smithsonian..........MICROFICHE NOT AVIALABLE DUE TO REMASTERING. I guess now I will have to wait. They were pulled for remastering on 8/30/2005!!! We'll see what happens next.

To whom it may concern, The drawings are photographs of the original drawing which means the are crystal clear in the middle of the drawing and blurred in the corners.What a nightmare. Dry martini can tell you more about them as he has taken on the monumental task of cleaning up some really piss poor drawings. My hat is off to you Bill for the hard work you do for the B-17 group.
