Well, check back to the B-17 News in a week or so because I've put together more stuff on that turret discussion you might find interesting. The gist is that the B-17C was slated to get remote turrets but Sperry & Boeing could not develop the system fast enough, and the remote turrets also missed the B-17D and only the lower one got into the B-17E, being replaced by the manned turrets for the rest of the program. The remote turrets (GE developed) were then slated for the B-29.

Turrets

That should be a great update!

I've often wondered about writing a book or
something to quash misstated B-17 facts, such
as the flap size increased on the B-17B, or
that it was a Bendix lower turret on the B-17E.

Newbie flatgate here. My Dad was 15th AF. He got his 50 missions as a Bombardier and went on to a long career in the USAF, including 1500 combat hours in the B-52 over S.E. Asia.

My B-17 interest was piqued by a ride in the Sentimental Journey a few years ago at RIW, WY.

I got to set in "Dad's Office" for take-off!
