44-83300 - scrapped or crashed?

While digging through the Paducah Sun-Democrat, I spotted a series of articles describing a B-17 crash in Nicaragua on May 22, 1947. There were 15 crewmen on board, and the plane was en route from the Canal Zone to Kelly Field when it caught fire and the crew bailed out. The last report stated that eleven of the men had been rescued so far.

I went to AAIR and there was a report on TB-17G 44-83300 being lost on that date at Alamicamba; the paper said it was 50 miles north of Alamicamba on the Tungla River. Checked Osborne and...

44-83300 Del Hunter 23/1/45; Dow Fd 7/2/45; Ass 8AF 15/2/45; RetUS Bradley 28/6/45; Sth Plains 30/6/45; RFC Kingman 17/12/45.

So could it have been pulled out of Kingman and put back into service? Or does AAIR have the wrong serial? And I wonder if anything's still at the crash site?

EDIT: Sniffed around a bit more and though Baugher also lists it as 44-83300, accident-report.com lists it as 44-83500; the Osborne listing says '500 was assigned to the Canal Zone and reclamation completed December 30, 1947.
