Help needed - 15th Af at Kingman

Post by terveurn »

Looking for any shots of 15th AF aircraft at Kingman or the other storage yards for the 15th AF War Diary.

I know of the B-24 with the checker tail, I can also see a B-17 in some of the wide shots

Almost ready for printers, looking for a finale

I had a few of them, but this is a new one from this collection.

An excellent high resolution download can be found at

I have a third photo from that sequence that continues on past the 447th's 43-38466. I used it in a Squadron book I did for the "Fighting Colors" series in the 1980s.

Unfortunately it's very like the others - those two 99th tails are visible, also 2nd Bomb Group's 44-6633 and 97th's 44-6850, plus another 97th I can't identify. Overwhelmingly 8th Air Force though.

Vast majority of the 15th AF ships were scrapped in Italy and not flown home. the flight crews were sent home via ship unlike the 8th AF

scroll down and see the death of the 15th AF
