Holy cow, where did you find this? First good shot of Walnut Ridge B-17s I've seen, and I'd have paid a kidney for it if I saw it on eBay. What a good high-res scan could tell us... and 42-102875 has to be in there somewhere.
Notes:
  • Hobbs plane in lower left corner?
  • Next two over from that: 44-8941 and 44-8029 - but why does 8029 have the early tail turret and non-staggered waist guns?
  • Roswell W-code TB-17G 43-37760 far right.
  • Above '760, B-17F 41-24352 or 41-24359?
  • Above and to the left of that, note the B-24J seems to be the only one with its national insignias blacked out - was that usually done at the scrapyard, or at the last base it was at before being sent to the RFC? (Still don't know if the Paducah plane had its markings blacked out, stripped or intact, and this picture doesn't answer the question :? )

I wish I knew where the original negative was located -- I suspect a news organization. What is also possible is there is a whole series that goes along with this one picture, no news photographer would just take one. Wonder if the 16 Nov 45 date is when it ran in a paper (or on the AP)

A lot of interesting aircraft in the background, the serials are ????

This is the same site that has tons of scrapped aircraft photos

Interesting about the D-45 with the non staggered waist, she appears in an series of accident photos from 25 September 44 so assuming she came from the factory in this configuration

44-8023 and 44-8039 are also unstaggered (you can see right through).

Well that is interesting, 44-8024 also is unstaggered
