Nuts, forgot to get a bid in - another view of B-17B ditching trainer Fritz the Ditch. Are those liferafts on the nacelles?

Nope - Oil tank access panels missing (I believe)

Or…I think Chris meant the circular life rafts hung over the front of the nacelles to dry…

Do not believe they are liferafts - way too big for WWII configuration.

My thoughts are just canvas covering the firewalls

Look to be just covers. My copy of that photo came from Jake Grimm, the 483rd Bomb Group historian. Unfortunately no further details.
