I grew up in Costa Mesa, just north of Newport Beach, and I remember one day going down to Newport and seeing the camera crews set up on the beach and watching some of the filming from a distance. I think the Stinson made a fly-by at one point but can't say for sure...it might have been my memory's wishful thinking.

The floats on an L-1 fuselage at SNA-Mantz in 1958....

(NOTE: TBM N9394H and B-25 N1203 in background...)

Was the float installation used in any other movies (1958-70) ? ....

According to the Movie info, the picture "was filmed off the Southern California coast, with some familiar landmarks along Newport Beach and Balboa as background".
