Hi all,
I'm currently building a website dedicated to the wreck of SB-17G 44-85746 in the Olympic Mountains in Washington state. I have visited the wreck three times, and after my last visit this November, I decided to start the website project, which I had wanted to do since the first time I visited the wreck in 2004.
My goals for the site are:
-Photo galleries of the remaining wreckage (Complete for the lower debris field- I have yet to find the impact area and document the wreckage that remains there)
-A description of 746's history (mostly complete, but very sparse)
-Documentation of 746's paintscheme and primer colors/scheme for modelers, including diagrams/drawings showing the details of the schemes. (in progress)
-A page detailing the history of the B-17H/SB-17G
-A diagram of the wreck site (without giving away the exact location of the wreck, though that information is incredibly easy to find)
-more, as I get more ideas.
I'm currently looking for more details to flesh out what I have on the site, particularly regarding the history. If anyone here has any information to share about the aircraft, especially photos, it would be extremely appreciated!
The site is: http://746project.wordpress.com
Any and all information and feedback regarding any aspect of the site would be extremely appreciated!
Thanks!
-Josh

Anybody? :/

A good reference would be Al Lloyd's book; B-17 Flying Fortress, Detail In Scale Vol 11, Pt2, Derivatives. It has great SB-17 info, including a shot of Nine-O-Nine, as an SB-17. 44-85746 was also featured in two Hubbell art prints. If you are in the Portland area, I will be happy to show them to you. I might be able to take a photo of them. Don

I'm sorry I can't help you out with more information on your search for your Web-Site. I did however really enjoy what you do have. These are the stories that , except for the few people involved, would probably be forgotten. Thanks for all your efforts, and keep up the good work!

Thanks, guys! After a bit of a break (read: interference from real life), I've managed to get back to working on this- added a couple updates last night, and working on some more today!
Air Depot, I have the detail and scale book- it's been extremely helpful in writing my description of the SB-17s history.
05564, I'm glad you appreciate it! my main motivation behind creating the site was getting out more information so that the hundreds of (generally uneducated) hikers who visit the site each year would be able to learn a bit more about what exactly they're looking at, and the story behind it. Once I make a little more progress, I'm planning on posting it to several hiking and wreckchasing forums, to try to get the info out to the people curious enough to do some more research!

PS- an interesting little tidbit:
This photo, which I took in May of 2012 at the Museum of flight in Seattle, shows two B-17s, both of which have a connection to 746!
Part of 746's rear fuselage structure surrounding the ball turret was recovered from the crash site in the 1990s, and incorporated into the restoration of the museum's B-17F, 42-29782. The B-17 in the background is B-17G-105-VE 44-85740, better known as "Aluminum Overcast." 740 and 746 likely shared some time together while on the production line at Burbank, and I was quite excited to discover that my photo shows them being reunited!

Came across this image on e-bay. Couldn't read the number on the nose until I got it. Not 746 but 773. Looks like it must be 44-83773
