Long a landmark along California's central valley Highway 99, 44-85738 has been displayed in Tulare since 1958. This B-17G never saw combat but, rather, was utilized in the first series of atomic testing undertaken at the Bikini Atoll in 1946. This B-17 operated as a "mother" control ship to other radio-controlled B-17Gs used to collect radioactive samples. (Photo by Josh Kaiser) close
