Books and Information for the Aviation Enthusiast
Currently, there are two B-17 projects that are largely based on new build components at this point, but will incorporate parts of original aircraft. It is a fine line these days, but noted here are two forthcoming projects. There is a third project airplane that primarily consists of various parts and subassemblies from different airframes that are tied to a B-17 airframe, much of which was scrapped in the early 1960s. Nonetheless, it is a viable project aircraft looking for a home and has a civil registration history with the FAA, and is currently registered.
