Re: B-17B upgrades
Thanks for posting. I have been talking about these mods for years. The most famous is the B-17B Mary Ann and B-17B 38-211. I have a partial list of the airframes that were modified and photos of these airplanes can be found on the AAF Accident report microfilm.

Missing Cadet
On 3 November 1943, at approximately 1820 MWT, a Vultee BT-13A (41-22638) was landed intact and abandoned 25 miles east of an area called Rocky Point in northwest Sonora, Mexico (near the town Punta Penasco). The student pilot, A/C Maurice Herzog (service number 38428453), was declared missing. The ...

Re: 7190 on bulkhead - which B-17 is it?
Didn't Douglas paint their own four digit inventory numbers-which differed from the AAF S/N--on the aircraft just aft of the pilot side windows? Perhaps that is what these numbers are. Maybe there is a list of company numbers and their corresponding AAF S/N? There is an example of this on page 54 of...

Re: *MORE* Proof Mary-Ann was a "B" Model
Great work on the propeller markings. That is really good work. I posted info on armyairforces.com about the commander's dome of this airplane in 2006, noting at that time the blister was in the position of a B-17B. I even pointed out the time in the film when this appears (also can be seen when the...

Here is my guess, and only a guess.
43-37578
Could be.
I know that the nose number does not always match the tail serial number.
Good luck Dan.

Re: B-25D crash 23 Jan 1943
The airplane is a B-25C 41-12960 and it went down on 24 Jan 1944.
This is the correct serial and date.
The subject heading in the book "The Aluminum Trail" is in error.
