Thats the way they were constructed towards the end of the run, not sure about the initial process. The SRM has some pics of the sub assemblies and I have seen pics of the radio room sub sections being built. All the forward sub assemblies were combined in a fixture and skinned with the cockpit encl...

In the E & M Instructions the major assemblies are shown on page 55 and the sub assemblies are on page 56. All the forward sub assemblies make up the forward fuselage assembly (55-7330).

The navigators/bombardier compartment BLK 1-3 is a sub assembly, the forward fuselage BLK 1-6 is a major assembly. The B-17 SRM shows the breakdown. It also shows the part and BAC numbers needed for the sub assemblies.

All of the drawings came off of the G series assembly drawing for bulkhead 3. A few may simply be geometric references, I'm not sure. Some of the drawings are for earlier models as well. The markings were different back then, those markings will have to be stripped and new ones applied.

Robert Rosenthal completed primary training at the 63rd Flight Training Detachment in Douglas, GA. You guys have walked the same ground as him. His son attended one of the reunions a few years ago.

How's the astrodome fairing coming along? I found the striker plates for the rear latches and will probably get them located in the next week or two. I won't install them just yet in case you want to pull a mold from them (I believe they are bronze).

I think the photos are at MacDill, at least the ones showing the hangars and water tower are, as well as the one showing the drain holes in the ramp.
