Re: Next B-17 Restoration Rebuild to Fly?
I photos I seen was of a very deep clay pit and a general location of 10 ST & Villa, oklahoma city. How much of the rumors are / were true, don't know; I should point out this was in the early 1980's and this gentleman was also telling me of aircraft (P-39's, Hurricanes and Bf109's ect) in Russia w...

Re: Next B-17 Restoration Rebuild to Fly?
Which South American bird are you referring to? How about closer to home -- how about the three possible Oklahoma City B-17's buried that I posted numerous times in the clay pits (these are the ex-flying-in combat vets). I've seen a lot of mentions of these and I could've sworn I saw some images of...

That's what I thought. Still sounds fun, though!cvairwerks wrote: ↑Sat Sep 09, 2023 3:09 pm Bomber camp is geared to bomber ops, dropping some dummy ordinance and playing with the guns and turrets.

Re: Tom Reilly Warbird Camp Still around?
Dang. Thanks for letting me know. I would've loved to do that for a week.
Though, isn't the bomber camp substantially different?

Tom Reilly Warbird Camp Still around?
I was flicking through my new copy of B-25s in Civil Service, and I noticed the page on Tom Reilly and the aviation camp. I did a quick google search and couldn't find anything on the company or the Warbird Camp outside of some of the basics, like the XP-82 restoration. I'm wondering if the camp is ...

Rather sad that SA-BAO wasn't preserved. Would've made an interesting museumpiece.
Now dig-up the Oklahoma city B-17's that according to numerous reports are still undergound (There should be a posting someplace on Aerovintage that I wrote many years ago)
I thought I saw the post on this forum for these, but I can't seem to find it since. Have a friend who lives ...

Re: B-17C Update
Just hopped into the forums so I'm just jumping dead threads, I apologize, but I've been absolutely fascinated by the early model B-17s for a long time and wanted to pop in to give my support. I do want to ask a stupid question though; why hasn't any of 40-2047 been salvaged for restoration? Is it j...

Re: 41-9234: A Very Unusual B-17E
With todays technology advances, it would be cheaper to manufacture new parts. Except for a static "as is" preservation, any type of rebuilding would envolve taking this airframe apart - R/R as needed. Even a static build is going to need a lot of mx - look at the trouble and the expense with 41-24...

Re: 41-9234: A Very Unusual B-17E
Such a beautiful machine, such a sad fate. Maybe one day, hopefully not to far in the future, 41-9234 will at the very least be put into a local museum, rather than in this sad state of affairs. This airframe has been on my mind since I first caught the "Warbird Bug". I had no idea about the modific...

Re: Modified B-17 Waist Positions
Steve,
That does look like a rather heavy and unwieldy modification. I'd never seen a modification like this before. Thank you for sharing!

About 5 years late on this, but I'm sad to say Photobucket nuked most of the update images. Hope to see an update sometime soon, if possible!

Re: B-17C / Fortress GR I AN530
Hi everyone, first post on the forum. This thread is captivating to me. I'm shocked that there hasn't been any attempt to relocate the buried airframe! Do we know if it was removed later and scrapped?
