Glad to announce B-17G Thunderbird is flying once again after a Summer
of rest awaiting the replacement of number 3 engine. Thunderbird made it's return to the air during last weekend's "Wings Over Houston Airshow" and looked great in the air and on the ground.

Texas Raider
I recently attended a meeting at Hobby Airport in Houston, Texas to discuss the completion of B-17G Texas Raider and have her back in the air this Spring. It's daunting task for the Gulf Coast Wing of the C.A.F. They have contracted a proven project manager to assist in making this date a reality. O...

I guess this would also apply to the Avro Lancaster, Constellation and what ever else is flying in Europe. Maybe the newly re-elected Tony Blair can make this problem go away with a stroke of the pin. I know the Brits are proud, as they should be, of their Battle of Britain Memorial flight...I hope ...

"Chuckie Flys Again"
I received this from a friend that has been working on "Chuckie" up in Fort Worth. Just wanted to let everyone know that apparently over the weekend, B-17G "Chuckie" took to the sky for a test flight after being grounded for several years. It is really good to know she's back in the air again...She ...

Whatever their motivation I'm just glad they motivated and in the Warbird direction. If it weren't for these people none of these 50/60 year old planes would be flying today. I'm afraid that next 10 to 15 years is going to see the end to a lot of the flying museums that we all enjoy today. The museu...

Hey Dik It wasn't meant as a snide remark. I was serious. I know no one is building a model but in your discussion you were looking for possible sources for accurate specification references with some question as to what you could still get from Boeing. It was just thought, don't discount these old ...

Hi Folks, As a note concerning the B-17C/D project, I made an inquiry to Cleveland Model Company to see if perchance they had a set of scale model plans for a C or D and the response was no, only the G. Several years ago I was going to scatch build a balsa display model of a P-51D. When I recieved t...

I like the idea for a D model or earlier but the logistics of finding the vertical and horizontal stabilizers to restore would present a problem. Maybe the original drawings from Boeing would be available but there are other differences like the side blisters and the dorsal gun position. I don't kno...

Ball turret thoughts
Last weekend we had our season ending fly day at the Lone Star Flight Museum. While taking time to study the B-17 ball turret on Thunderbird I began to imagine what it must have been like to be a ball turret gunner. I couldn't find anyone that knew whether or not anyone at the museum had ever actual...
