A few years ago I helped in the restoration of a B17, After it was completed, I was told that it was sold for 1 million$, strickly heresay.

To answer your question---- The Collings Foundation WW2 B17 and B24 are flown by volunteer airline pilots.

I flew my 50th sortie Feb 14th, Maybe it was at the beginning of big week, because a miision to Regensberg was scheduked, and scrubbed because of weather prior to Feb 14th.
I was in the 348th Sqdn, 99th Bomb Group

I flew the B 17C and D when I took transition training in 1942. It was a great plane and my recollection was that it was faster then the E and F models, I also flew both. Of course it might have to do with the weight I flew F and G in combat
