Going through a number of pics I found recently. I have one of B-25 NL2424.
In the background is a B-24 with a painted out insignia.
My reference says that NL2424 was purchased from Walnut ridge. From photographic evidence Walnut ridge does not have mountains in the background, as is evident in this pic. Therefore this pic was taken on or after 6 December 1946 at a, probably, civilian Airfield.
So the natural assumption is that this is another civilian B-24. In any case the B-24 is not in a field with rows of other B-24s.
Anyone know where NL2424 was based out of? Or; if Shell owned a B-24 as well?

I should have known it was Oakland. I grew up in the Bay Area and it did look somewhat familiar. Oth I was stationed at Hamilton AFB/AAF and have seen pics that I could swear were taken there, only to find out they were taken someplace completely different.
I found it interesting that in 1949 they flew it down to LA, without going through the bother of registering this ac.
It makes you wonder how many other aircraft flew without the "bother" of going through the FAA. Jesse Bollands small Air Force comes to mind.
I did find where he was sued in Virginia in connection with his B-17s and other aircraft. IF I ever get down that way I may go to the court house to pull up the case file in the hopes of finding Registration numbers.
