Another fragment of B-17 history . . .
This photo turned up on the Second Emergency Rescue Squadron’s website, courtesy of Alan Humphreys. It shows instructor Private Lloyd Humphreys at Lockbourne in April 1943.
The caption states, “With his previous experience as a Navy pilot as well as a civilian flight instructor, he was granted permission to go to the instructor’s course before he was commissioned". A second photo from the same source probably shows the same Lockbourne B-17E.
