Anti-Sub B-17 info

Post by SHAEF1944 »

Hello gentlemen. Looking for any info, pictures, maunuals, etc for the early air-to-surface radar SCR-521 installations in B-17's. Specifically looking for illustrations/pics of the antennas. These are the ones that had a transmitting antenna on the nose, 1 homing antenna under each wing, and a double wire set-up from tail to RO position in addition to wire antennas on the sides below waist windows.

Only pic I have seen is close-up of nose position of B-17E 41-9211 "Typhoon McGoon" of the 11th BG in the Pacific.

Anybody have any suggestions ?

Thanks !

I wasn't going to bother with this, but because a week has passed with no other replies . . . Here's FL459, originally 41-9241 they say, serving with 220 Squadron, RAF Coastal Command . . .

Anyway, it's a nice photo, from the Imperial War Museum collection.

It's very hard to find photos of these aerials because they were religiously removed by the censors during the war. Weren't some visible on B-17s in John Huston's Report From The Aleutians?
