As some may already know, I've been looking for this
Magnetic Particle Inspection Specification for several
years. It is specified for steel parts on the B-17, and
had virtually disappeared off the face of the earth.

The Smithsonian didn't have it, the Military didn't have it,
various particle inspection companies throughout the
country didn't have it. No references on-line to it.

So, I asked the National Archive.
In April.
I got a letter back.
In September.
They had found a copy!

I really needed to know the pass/fail criteria on the
inspected part, so that we could have things inspected to
the same standard. When I found the criteria, I cringed.
Here it is:

G-1. Parts containing defects which, in the opinion of the Procuring
Agency, are injurous to strength, durability, or safety, shall be rejected.

Gee. Thanks.
