Note from webmaster about people who insist on making personal attacks: I deleted a prior post that had a similar but more vulgar vein. I deleted a more detailed personal attack recently posted that made some good points but in a manner that obscured the good points with a tirade of insults. I presume it is from the same poster. I also note that this poster does not identify himself. Perhaps you guys need to exchange email addresses so you can hurl such things at each other in private. Not as much fun though, eh?

I need all the postings I can get here, but those kind I don't need and will delete.

Please go somewhere else if you insist on posting such things.

Not really a guest but I had to re-register so my post numbers aren't showing.

Since the plane isn't mine, they can named it what ever they want. Maybe Paul Allen will name his with a historic name when she flies.

I didn't like the idea of My Gal Sal to be displayed the way she is but again she is not mine.

I really want to thank the Desert Rat team for saving this bird. If they didn't, you might be drinking your favorite beverage out of her.

I agree wholeheartedly, especially about "MY GAL SAL".

And to be honest about it, I don't think "SAL" will remain down after the guy that owns it dies. I'm sure that his relatives will be offered a deal they just can't refuse, and eventually "MY GAL SAL" will take to the air again.

Who knows, maybe someday it'll fly across the pond to England with a certain P-38.

We can only hope.

And here's a special note to a PC-WIXer that goes by the name maxum96 who whines on that site that . . .

"I recently posted my opinion reference the naming of the B-17 Desert Rat on the Aero Vintage Forum. Another poster by the name of Dik Shepard disagreed with me and called me names because I had a different opinion. I'd seen this poster argue with others in that forum as well as this forum.
Long story short, I do not visit the Aero Vintage Forum anymore. I did post a final message to Dik letting him know I wasn't too fond of him. Because I want to read and share info about warbirds and not argue, I will not post there. "

I can only assume that you were the Cowardly Guest, but I reviewed every one of the entries on this post and NOT once did I find that I called you, or anyone else, any kind of name. So, it's just like I've been saying, some of the people (and I use that term loosely) on that site don't care what I write, they just want to try to start arguements. And apparently they can't comprehend much of what they read, because they choose to see and make up things that aren't there. I guess it's just their feelings of inadequacy and lack of intelligence that causes this.

And by the way maxum96, my name is spelled DIK SHEPHERD. 8)

Also, I saw no "final message" from you, and it was probably just a bunch of jibberish anyway. And as far as you not coming to this FORUM anymore, as we used to say in the Navy, OH WELL.

And as far as not being fond of me. I don't know you and you may be gay, but I'm not.

My Gal Sal

Post by DryMartini »

As far as "SAL" flying again - I highly doubt it.
It was not reconstructed to airworthy standards,
with to spec parts and materials.

Someone would need to go through and re-do all
the work that group did to put her back together -
a very expensive and time consuming activity.

Oh, you mean something like the people in Urbana are doing, except using the proper jigs and such?

There is a difference

Urbana is using 2024 material, getting the proper extrusions
made, and has every intent on flying their plane - all of
which "SAL" is lacking.

i find it interesting that people who call a spade a spade are deleted from this site on a regular basis and yet someone as offensive as dik sheppard is allowed to constantly post his offensive and derogatory comments at will. it seems to me and a few other people that dik is the subject of these supposedly offensive postings and yet no action seems to be taken to request that he clean up his act. i read here on a regular basis but i rarely post. however,,what i do notice is that everytime someone posts a comment about diks negativity, which quite often is warranted, it is erased the next day and dik is allowed to respond with yet another derogatory retort. pc wixers?? if that isnt offensive i dont know what is. maybe it was funny the first time but allowing it to continue is not only immature but obviously biased. the mediator of this site definately seems to have a double standard going here. not trying to offend with that statement just stating what is painfully obvious to the people that you want to visit your website, the posters. if this site is to make headway towards credibility there has to be a unilateral standard. there are some good postings on this site but allowing someone like d.s. to continue his self centered rants unchecked will only push this site further into obscurity.

From the webmaster, me: I've deleted some of Dik's postings and I will continue to delete postings that cross my line, whether they are from Dik or anyone else. I'll take it only so far and when it clearly is a posting that is only meant to personally insult someone without any constructive intent, it's gone. It may be arbitrary on my part, but someone has to decide how low the forum is going to go, and that's me, I guess.

i see your point scott and i respect the challenges that you must face on a daily basis. however there are two perfect examples of d.s. at his finest posted right on this very page. how can you say that they arent derogatory and/or insulting? i wont drag this on any further but i think that i have a valid point here. i do enjoy your website and particularly the b-17 updates! keep up the good work!!

Webmaster Scott, Like some of the previous posters have said, I find Dik Shepherd's attitude arrogant and offensive. I came to this website to read and share information about WWII aircraft. Mr. Shepherd's attitude is causing me to no longer want to come here. I see there have been other posters that have made the same statement about Mr. Shepherd previously.

I didn't know what WIX was until Mr. Shepherd made mention of it while slamming another poster. I do want to thank Mr. Shepherd for mentioning that message board in his post. I am finding the group of people there far less contentious then some of the ones in here.

You stated earlier you needed all the postings you can get in here. I think unless Mr. Shepherd tones down his rhetoric or is banned, you are going to continue to lose people from your forum.

Your point is well taken. I will continue to monitor and delete posts that cross my line. I am trying to encourage discussions about airplanes, particularly B-17s and/or B-25s. I'd rather not spend my time on civility stuff. Please check back often, and post when you want.

Okay, everybody. We're done here. This subject is locked. Move on to something else or move somewhere else. I'm tired of it.
