Gentlemen,

Anyone who can match Air Corps OR Bureau No. 42-47440 to a Mitchell B-25C, delivered to the RAF, flown by 320 (Dutch) Sqn Bomber Command.
Number found on a Mitchell engine found in France, believed to be of Mitchell FR146 NO-O, crashed 26/11/1943 at Tréauville, Manche, France.

Hi Rob,
The answer must be "NO" after 4 1/2 yrs of waiting for an answer.
FR146 NO-O was 42-32277 and went missing on 26Nov43 indeed.
The AAC serial 42-47440 belongs to a CG-4A, not to a B-25.
Kind regards,
Coert

I don't think airplane serial numbers were ever attached to engines. The engine may have had its own serial number, though not sure on this.

Engines have their own serial numbers. You might check http://www.enginehistory.org/ for additional info

The P-36 engine for sale by Aircorps Depot has a dataplate stating the aircraft type as P-36A and a serial number of 37-280 (which would be an O-47A). Weren't engines and props usually a separate purchase and therefore had their own year-dated serial numbers?

Several years ago there was a propellor listed on eBay as having come from a B-17 but was obviously an older ground-adjustable (like on a P-6E, A-12 or B-10). I recall the A.C. serial was 33-xxx on that one.
