PB4Y Privateer part

While looking through our part inventory, we came across
a few ammo boxes. We thought they belonged to a B-25,
but upon looking, they had stenciling which read:

R. H. REAR
BLISTER GUN
400 RDS

Thinking about it, this sounds like a PB4Y privateer
ammo box. Am I right?

Is anyone looking for boxes like this? We have a few,
some have tops on them. PM me if interested.

Bill,

When I think of blister guns the first thing that comes to mind are the blister gun positions on the PBY Catalina Flying Boat. If memory serves me correct I believe some models carried a .50 cal in each blister which could swing into position when the blister "bubble" glass was opened.

Of course this is just a guess so who knows????

John, I thought of that, but the PBY had only single
guns in the blister, if memory serves me right.
Since this said "R.H. REAR", that implies there are two
guns in the blister, and the first plane I thought of
was PB4Y.

Probably not. "Blister" guns on the B-25 are what the four on the outside (two on each side of the forward fuslage, aimed forward) were called.

The ammo boxes would be one behind the other (side-by-side), fore-to-aft, instead of side-by-side, port-to-starboard. Thus, R.H. REAR = Right side Rear

Hi
I'm John M.
I am on the PB4Y-2 crew at Yankee Air Museum and I am pretty sure that those ammo boxes are for a Privateer
We have the ammo boxes for the tail turret and they look very similar to these
We do need the ammo boxes for the blister turrets
