Stateside trainer, although I'm assuming she came back from the ETO as it appears the single 50 mount is in the nose. Photo taken at Chanute Field, Illinois.

Baugher's listing doesn't mention any combat history:

Was that on ebay? There were other pics of a single gun nose 17 that had holes chopped all over the plane. The nose glass was destroyed but the mount was still intact.

Yep. I saw the hacked up photos too but decided to stick to this one as there was enough to maybe find a story to her.
Thanks Chris for the info. I take it the single 50 gun mount wasn't just an ETO mod then if this bird never left home.

I agree, the photo says the hacked up bird was in Alabama. What I don't get was why they allowed the bird to be hacked up? Very strange if you ask me.I have got to build that mount so if anybody comes up with good pics of that inside and out I would be forever in their debt.

Is this the nose gun mount you are looking for photos of? If so I’ll see what else I can dig up.
There is a photo of a B-17F at the Douglas Long Beach factory with this mount floating around this forum somewhere. So I guess it became a standard piece of equipment. If so there must be drawings of it somewhere.

I would love to have drawings to that badboy.Sure would make it easier to replicate than doing it from pictures.

Hang, I'm very pleased that nose gun mount photo was is useful. I just came across two excellent photos of that mount showing it from the inside of the aircraft. They are in a book I just got this week titled "The Original Hell's Angels: 303rd Bombardment Group of World War II" written by Valerie Smart. The photos are really nice and sharp and I would try to scan them but I doubt I could get decent scans without tearing the book apart. It is available on Amazon or AbeBooks which is where I got my copy.

Here is another nice photo of that gun mount, plus some interesting plexiglass patches. Did you ever get that “Hell’s Angels” book? The two interior photos of that mount in it are excellent.
