Post here with anything to do with warbirds, those fine vintage flying machines.

Great find! Scroll down and click on the "B-17 Flying Fortress" tag and you'll be like a kid in a candy store...

B-17G drone 44-83692; this and the inflight shots show the bomb bay doors partly opened - anyone know why?

And since Getty Images is connected with Warner Bros., there are several shots of our old friend Mary Ann:

Another rare one: Y1B-17 36-160 plus another in early war camo:

Note the external bomb racks.

Anyone recognize the hangar? (March Field maybe?)

Brief shot of three B-17Ds over Hawaii in mid-1941; "41 11B" on left is 40-3084 per Osborne; anyone have an ID for "92 4R"?

B-17E 41-2566 at a public display:

It had a short career; delivered to MacDill February 6, 1942 and lost April 20, 1942 (per Osborne, April 29 per AAIR) in a midair collision with P-40E 41-24933 four miles west of Orlando, with the loss of all on both planes.

Thanks for the great link! A lot of very interesting stuff there. Christmas came early this year!

Did any of you check out the clip of French fashion model and actress Colette Duval setting a 1956 free-fall parachute jumping record from a B-17 in Brazil? I wish they had shown more of the B-17. I take it was one operated by the Brazilian Air Force. Does anyone have any idea which one? That jump looked like a hair raising experience, tough woman!

I believe that 4th Recon Squadron's number 92 was 40-3082.

44-83692 is not just a drone, but it was used to collect fallout from the Atomic Testing -- the bomb bays carried collection bags

Ah, that makes sense.
Here's a couple from Kingman for you: 44-83327 plus "X J5" from Alexandria in the background.
