B-7 Cockpit Lamps

Hi everyone,

Today I'm trying to figure out how the B-7 cockpit lamps are supposed to be wired into power. If you're not familiar, the B-7 lamps have a lamp head at the end of a long, spring-loaded extension cord, which retracts into the main housing. The main housing contains the switch and cord retracting spool.

I can't figure out how these are wired into power, though... There are no holes anywhere for a lead in or out, only on the lid which the lamp head snaps into. On this lid are two special nuts, which don't have anything in them. They don't connect to anything on the back side, but this is the only place where power could enter or exit the unit.

Inside, there is an unused side of the switch for + and a lug for -, but no place for the wires to go from there.

Here is a picture of the B-7, except my B-7 has a bakelite body, same as the lid. You can see one of the unused nuts that is built into the lid, in the upper left.

This also makes me wonder how these should be mounted...Anyone know?

Any help is appreciated

They are installed by brackets to fit the particular installation via the two face plate nuts. The case is drilled where necessary for a wire feed thru. BellsAviation.com has one with the installation sheet. I bet if you ask nice, they might make a copy for you. AIr Corp Spec 94-32228 gives the installation info. Bell's item number is INST-1092.

Thank you very much.

I tried searching the air corp spec, but there is no information online (at least publicly). Do you know where I can find these specs?

Thanks again,

Eli

Eli: Bell's ad is the only place I've seen it. Give them a shout with the item number I listed in my previous response and see if the will send you a copy of that sheet. Looks like a copy was packed in the box with every light made.
