While digging through the Paducah Sun-Democrat, I spotted a series of articles describing a B-17 crash in Nicaragua on May 22, 1947. There were 15 crewmen on board, and the plane was en route from the Canal Zone to Kelly Field when it caught fire and the crew bailed out. EDIT: Sniffed around a bit more and though Baugher also lists it as 44-83300, accident-report.com lists it as 44-83500; the Osborne listing says '500 was assigned to the Canal Zone and reclamation completed December 30, 1947.
