New Book from Frederick Johnsen: Q-Birds

Post by aerovin2 »

Q-Birds is a new book being released next week (December 19) on the manned drones operated by the U.S. military through the years. I've gotten an advance copy of the book and find it particularly fascinating for the detail on the DB-17/QB-17 operations in the late 1940s and 1950s, but it well-covers the gamut of drone development and operations from the 1920s through the 2020s.

I did a review of the book on the aerovintage site seen here: https://www.aerovintage.com/2024/12/14/ ... n-q-birds/

And, for those so inclined, it is available as a preorder at Amazon here: https://amzn.to/3ZEvSy8

With all the QB-17s that were shot down over land, are there any crash sites that have been explored/documented?

I think most of the over land shoot downs were at the Test Range at Holloway or China Lake and from what I understand, they were cleaned up fairly quickly after the tests.
