Lyndon Johnson's 1942 footage of the Swoose on YouTube

Post by Chris Brame »

Found this while looking for something else. From LBJ's Australia trip in '42: The quality is poor but the inside and outside views of the Swoose are priceless! I hope the inside details can be of some help for the restoration; note the "Flying Fortress" badge on the instrument panel in one shot, and also how rough the OD paint job really was. Also note the P-40s (squadron ID, anyone?) and a B-18 missing a prop in one shot. Enjoy!

The P-40s are 49th FG when based in Northern territory AUST.in 42.They later went to NG.That has to be the only early footage of 49th at least that I have seen.

I passed this link along to the restoration team at the NMUSAF - they were very appreciative and had not seen this footage before.

Thank you Chris for sharing this fantastic video. It' a shame it couldn't be of better quality , but still a lovely sight. Scott , if I squint real hard, that looked like you taking off in your RV-8.
