12th Air Force B-17s

Post by Steve Birdsall »

There's some beautiful raw footage of 301st Bomb Group B-17Fs at Tafaraoui during December 1942. Pegasus was 41-24348 from the 352nd Bomb Squadron. Well worth a look.

Thanks for the link to some great video, Steve. It took me a few minutes to realize that those Fortresses were flying over, or in the general vicinity of, my father. Dad was a member of the U.S. 1st Armored Division and was in North Africa from the beginning of Operation Torch.

Dad used to mention seeing the friendlys flying overhead and feeling some security. He once got a haircut at a desert airfield from a "real" barber and he mentioned some Spitfires and B-17s on the field--who knows, it may have been the 301st. 8)
