I recently read a narative by a 19th BG member in which he describes several field modifications to B-17E nose gun installations in Java. The first was removal of the triangular ventilator in the lower right hand part of the nose piece and replacing it with a steel plate and socket mount for a .50 cal. gun. The other, more interesting one was removal of the escape door and replacing it with a "rack" mount with a .30 cal socket installation. I've seen pics of the "ventilator" gun mod.
but the hatch mounted gun is new to me. Has anyone seen a picture of that one?
