B-17s at Dallas Love Field
B-17s at Dallas Love Field
According to the 1958 shot of Dallas Love Field. There were 7 PB-1Ws parked in storage on the western corner of the airport. 2 of these were flown out of Dallas for "The War Lover". What happened to the other 5? And are there any photos of these planes while in storage in Dallas?

Track down a copy of Martin Caiden's book "Everything but the Flak" about the ferry flight of those 17s for the War Lover. I seem to recall there were photos of the 17s as they were in storage prior to the refurbishment for the movie.

Someplace in my "library" I have some publication(s) with photos of at least a few of the Love Field Forts. I'll try my luck at remembering what books/magazines the pictures are in for you.

Surprised Steve Birdsall did not respond on this one - Steve's B-17 book from the 1960 has a bunch of pictures of the PB-1W's at Love NAS.

For what it is worth, these are all pretty well documented in Final Cut. I also did an article for FlyPast years ago on these airplanes that had some good color shots of them at Dallas. I'll try and dig a few out and post them here. If I were on the ball, I'd add a section to my website with that material. Maybe someday....

That article appeared in the September 2004 issue of FlyPast magazine, and pretty much covered the story of these B-17s. Here is one of the photos:
