New B-17 Book

Post by terveurn »

Just published and available on Amazon...

http://www.amazon.com/B-17-Production-B ... +42-102978

There is also a Addendum page created for the stuff that came in after the book was published

Had Cliff Bishop look at a PDF before it was published and he liked what he say.

Dave,

Interesting...the book lising indicates that it has inventory lists for various RFC fields. Are you saying that you have specific inventory listings of aircraft on these fields that were done at the time? We have searched for those lists for many years; reportedly, those records were destroyed in a fire. The only listing I have seen is for Stillwater, OK, and that is only because it was filed in a CAA registration application by Paul Mantz. Curious as to what you have managed to uncover.

Thanks...

Scott

What I did was index the information from the aircraft cards using both the STNO and date arrival as the basis for the lists. Like a lot of people, I have looked and could not find anything, so I had to do the next best thing, try and recreate using the information available (ie the aircraft cards).

Amazing stuff, Dave!
Did you ever find any more out about the final disposition of 42-102834?
(I may be going down to Paducah, KY soon and I'll try to hit the library while there - somebody has to have taken a photo of that B-17...)

Just found what her card said -- she was one of two, 42-102 series aircraft sent in the summer to Memphis for disposition.

Still no photo of her has 'yet' shown-up. I am sure someplace, there is a phot of each of the B-17's, just a matter of time tracking them down.

I'd like to buy a copy but I would prefer to pay with PayPal, which Amazon does not accept. Is there any other way I could purchase a copy using PayPal?

One can't have too many B-17 books.

Thanks,
John

I just got the book Saturday, Thanks Dave! It is an impressive compilation of information! This book makes a good companion to “The B-17 Flying Fortress Story” and the “B-17 Nose Art Directory”. It is also nice to see many photos that I’ve never seen before. Good work Dave!

Glad you enjoyed the book -- I tried putting together a book that I would want -- lots of information, lots of photos printed on very high quality paper.

Mission accomplished
