One for Steve to ID

Post by Dan Johnson »

Any ideas on which bird this was once upon a time? The slot under the pilot window would seem to indicate it's a General's bird when this was taken.

Hi Dan - it's 41-24353, originally Cap'n & The Kids with the 43rd Bomb Group. I think the photo was probably taken in Japan when the plane was being used by General K. B. Wolfe. Anyway, that's where I'll start looking.

Very nice find.

Here's the plane at Chofu, Japan after the war. I've never been able to identify that tail marking.

If you look closely at Dan's photo you can see traces of the letter "m" left of the tenth and eleventh flag . . . remnants of Miss Em', the name of the plane when it was assigned to General Robert L. Eichelberger.
