Another thing to consider is that, other then the "C" models that were sent to England as "Fortress Is" (and which failed miserably), the "C" model B-17s really don't have much history equated to them. In fact, the Y1B-17s have a greater history than the "C" models, as do the "D" models.

Also, . . . we never did hear about the B-17 Co-Op meeting.

It is thought (assumed), but never proven.

And the B-17 that was destroyed during the Pearl Harbor attack was a "C".

But saying a history of being shot down is something to brag about, I just don't agree.

The flight of B-17's that arrived over Oahu on December 7th were both B-17C and B-17E models. The B-17C #49 crash landed at Bellows Field. The B-17C and D both saw service during 1941 and early 1942. Java being the last combat action for the early small finned B-17's.

That aircraft was 40-2045, with a "45" on the silver tail.

You mean that B-17C 40-2045 WAS NOT flown by Colin Kelly??
This aircraft, and at least 4 others, attacked the Japanese invasion fleet in Lingayen Gulf, although unsuccessfully.

I HAVE that Serial number, it's in the book World War 2, a USAF History, or a similar title, and Col. Saavedra sent me a copy of those 3 or 4 pages - but that aircraft was strafed on the ground and flares in the radio compartment were set off and set alight, so that is why the aircraft was torn in half.

There were 4 B-17Cs accompanying the 2 B-17E formations ( 8 or 10 aircraft) from Hamilton AFB to Hickam AFB.
