My brother gave me a subscription to the old newspaper site, so I've been down the B-17 rabbit hole again. Both are national wire stories which were published in the Louisville Courier Journal.
#1: From 1949, where we can finally confirm the fate of Master X's B-17G 42-102800:
#2: From May 1946, where an unidentified B-17 almost beat the scrappers in an unusual way. I couldn't find who sponsored the essay contest; could it have been the RFC at Stillwater trying to promote surplus sales?
