... The Royal Navy rescue aircraft is actually a prewar American O-47 observation plane.

The same plane later was used in "Flight of the Phoenix" (1965) as a last minute replacement for the original "Phoenix" that crashed while filming.

As mentioned she is not listed in the imdb listing as being in this film - not even listed in the Talmantz list of aircraft

It was never a Tallmantz aircraft. It was The Air Museum (Planes of Fame).

That is the O-47 one that crashed.
