PB-1G 77254 instrument panel

Post by AIR DEPOT »

I have just acquired the instrument panel for PB-1G 77254. It is the modernized panel, probably from it's days at Dothan Aviation. Would anyone have photos of the cockpit from those days? I need the photos to help me restore the panel. Thank you.

Although I did climb into every B-17 at Dothan, at one time or another, I never took any pictures of the cockpits.

Sorry. 8)

Someone may have taken a photo of the panel when it was Tanker #37

N9323R. It is the airplane on display with the 390th Memorial Museum at Pima.

I recall correctly (I am sure Dik will correct me provided I am wrong) that Wheelless had three B-17s. two were sold following the loss of one of the three which went down around Macon. I know I don't have a picture of that specific instrument panel, but do of the other(s)

Tanker 37, N9323R, was one of the two airplanes that were sold. It is the one that I need a picture of the panel for.

Dothan only had N9323R for a short time in the 1963 time frame. Its primary B-17s were N3701G, N5017N, and N4710C. See the new Warbird Digest issue for an article on the Dothan B-17s. I haven't seen it yet but it should have some good stuff in it.

I wonder if there was any kind of "standardization" in the cockpit in-so-far as equipment ie. instruments etc. I believe that my cockpit photo is of 3701G or 5017N, as 4710C was moltenmetal by the time I got to Wheelless. Will be able to make a better determination of which I have in ablut 4 or 5 hours
