1/3rd Scale B-17 Homebuilt

Post by aerovin2 »

Hoo-boy....here is something you just don't see every day.

Image

Being built by Jack Bally of Dixon, Illinois. Yeah, man. Go Jack!

And it will fly like a Cessna 150, which may or may not be a good thing.

Control wheel looks like full scale, wth four throttles to boot.

Here's a link to the EAA story which 'yall should be able to get to (don't think you have to be official EAA, but if you're not, you should be anyway):

Now, me I thought I was doing okay building an RV-8; I just wasn't thinking big enough.

By the way, anybody remember the 1972-ish Air Progress article about doing a B-17 homebuilt to be powered by VW engines? Well, I do.

Yes, I remember the article. It more or less slammed the building of replicas.
The B-17 idea had 4 VW's,with PowerHaus prop reductions and sat two,
the passenger facing rear, with his head in the "radio compartment"
