Update: 12 O'Clock High

Post by aerovin2 »

I've added a page on the TV series 12 O'Clock High to my B-17 Movie information. Check out the page from here:

Hope y'all enjoy it.

I've heard the rumors that the B-17 fuselage here in Greeley in the Armory Bar has been sold. While I'm not able to get inside to see if it's still there, I can tell it hasn't been removed. When the B-17 was put into the bar, they cut an opening out in the back of the bar where the B-17 was hung inside. The opening is covered by concrete and the rest of the building is brick. No new holes have been cut in the walls. There is no door larger than a home front door in the Armory.

Along with the B-17 fuselage, the Armory was decorated with movie props. 2 of those props were jet fighter canopies (looked like they might be f-86's). The owner of the bar told me a few years ago that all the props came from a studio and that the original bar owner was planning to open a series of bar/restaurants with a movie prop motif. Supposedly the Armory was the only one he did complete.

judging by the weather reports the place keeps getting hit by snow and the temp the other day was 10 below.Maybe springtime? Can be expensive taking out that wall and then putting it back. Get the drill out and drill the plane apart.

Scott:

Contact Jim Farmer and ask him why he painted "Lilly" instread of "Lily".

He'll probably tell you that's it was because the original "Piccadilly Lilly" was painted with two "L".

By the way, the TV "Lilys" were not painted on the aircraft, they were painted on shelf liner type paper and stuck on. They were removed after filming and replaced the next time they were needed. This allowed them to change the aircraft name without over painting.

I use to have one of the Lily figures, but it was stolen several years ago.

Darn,

It was more fun to have a mystery.
