Location of data plate on B-17

Post by maxum96 »

I'm trying to indentify a B-17 fuselage located near my home. Where would I find the data plate? Is there any other location the serial number would be located? The fuselage is cut off just to the rear of the ball turret. Thanks for any help.

It's located on the bulkhead just aft of the fuselage main entrance door, so if all you have is the tail you might be lucky. If you have the fuselage forward of the ball turret, well, unless you have the instrument panel with the radio call sign riveted on, you might be out of luck. That, or the data block under the cockpit, unless it is covered with multi-layers of paint. Sounds like you might be talking about the bar-hangin' airplane?
