For the Edification and Information of those who are interested in ID'ing aircraft from the film "Air Force," I have one and possibly two for you: In the beginning flightline shots of John Ridgely walking back to Mary Ann, he passes in front of "18". In the shot where he's talking inside the bomb bay to the crew chief, through the gap between the fuselage and the bom-bay door can be seen, just barely, "8211"!
Also, the B-17D 40-3092 photo in "Fortress In tThe Sky" has, painted on the rudder mostly, the number "12". Anybody know whetehr this aircraft (the camouflage was painted on at Harvard) was based at Hendrix?
Edited and Serial Number changed when I saw that shot of 8211/"18".

Second B-17B ID from movie "Air Force"
To correct the above info,
The S/N "8211" is visible through the slats of a work ladder that has different levels for working on engines or other parts in situ. Through these slats can be seen, in the background of ths sceen where first, John Ridgely talks to Harry Carey, and then aftwords, the "2nd Radio", talks to Harry Carey, the large tail number "18", and then, in the gap above that space, the numbers "8211".
After having seen that excellent photo showing the S/N clearly, I am changing all of my posts to reflect the new S/N.
Thank you!!

From looking at "07" over and over again and messing with a screenshot, it would appear that the number on the tail is 8261
I can't get a clear enough Jpeg to prove it, but I didn't know that it was a possible number. I just went with what it appears to be to me. That it's a possibility was only found after I checked here.
I'll try and get a clear screenshot if I can.
