I'm drooling! PLEASE let me know where your friend got those white "10"s and what size the USAAF S/Ns are. I am on a VERY limited budget and have been trying to build this kit in 1/72 for YEARS!!
The real thing, however, is a B-17B, NOT a B-17C, and therefore should have an offset-to-the-aircraft's-right Mission Commander's Bubble!
I am PRAYING for some company or individual to sell the1/72nd scale (and 1/48th for the Koster Conversion) decals for "10"/05564"/9007 (not sure which one is the real S/N - 9003, 9006, [8212??] or 9007, but am betting on "9007"), "15"/9001, and "18"/8211.

That Beautiful B-17 model of 05564 10
I already have 3 Academy kits, 2 of the B-17B and a B-17C/D, that I can get at.
Somewhere, I have 1 or 2 more B-17B kits, and even some of a friend's old Rareplanes conversion fuselages for the B-17C/D, with the 1/72 Revell wings and other parts to go with them, but cannot now locate the cardboard box with this stuff in it, as when we moved up here from Miami, it was pretty much chaotic.
The bottom line is that I would give almost anything to be able to build a kit of this airplane.

Academy B-17C kit
Of course, you are right - "Mary Ann" was a B model,
but Mike made this for me out of the Academy B-17C
kit. The "10" on the nose is a decal, but the "10"
on the tail is painted on. Also, "Mary Ann" and "05564"
are pieced together from micro-scale decal sheets of letters
and numbers.

Right you are!
Still, it's a beautiful kit; and there WAS at least one B-17C and possibly 1 or 2 B-17D aircraft at Hendricks and/or Sebring during the filming, so the kit actually IS accurate, in a way.
Still, it's BEAUTIFUL!!! May you have much enjoyment from it! I wish I could recall the name of the Post where you had the photos.
Thanks again.
Warmest regards and best wishes,
Dan
